Dear comrades. It is difficult to say it, but here is the truth: everyone is not Communist (yet). There are still individuals in this world who ignore the multiple reasons to embrace Marxism. There are still people that deny the inherent validity of Leninism. But don’t be sad, we can still hope for their salvation. What would be better than convincing them peacefully? This article will provide to you, who are already Communists of course, the tools to convince everyone around you to join us.
First of all, what is Communism? If you want to explain it in a few words, you might say that it is “the truth as Karl Marx theorized it”. However, you need more complexity so your listener can truly understand what it is about. Communism is both a movement and an ideology, but it is also the name given to the final goal of Communists. It is an ideology that bases itself on the hope and the certainty of a better future, different from the past and the present. It is positivist, in the sense that it (successfully) tries to explain social phenomenons in a scientific way. This goes through dialectic, a method of thinking that can destroy your confidence and self love by putting all your ideas in question; but you end up communist so it’s cool!
Communism, as a final goal, is a form of society that Communists hope for; It’s heaven. Let’s imagine a world where everyone works according to their means and everyone receives what they need; a world where we replace exploitation with sharing, hate with love. Wouldn’t it be perfect? There is no more state to tell you what to do, but still everyone is doing the right thing. In a Communist society, private property can’t corrupt us anymore. Humans are no more in a state of continual competition, of perpetual opposition. They can build healthy relationships with anyone, letting progressivism take over traditional ideas of restrictive love. No more jealousy, no more toxicity, no more “Did you even notice I got a haircut?!”. We could forget about all social constructions, all social limitations. Let’s just hug each other, be happy and write ambiguous love letters to our friends.
You can easily agree with all open minded people that this is wonderful. However, a famous critique of this idea is that it is too difficult to achieve, “utopian”. Luckily, Karl didn’t just explain his dream, but he also provided the best way to make it real. This way is called “Socialism”. Confused with Communism, it is in fact a transitional society that gets us from hell to heaven. There is still a state to tell us what to do, but it’s ok because the state is led by a Communist Party. The point of Socialism, also called the “Dictatorship of the Proletariat” (trust me, it’s democratic), is to eradicate all anti-revolution stuff, including ideas and people. It also aims to free humanity for its own determinisms in order to get us ready for Communism. It builds a new mankind, “Homo Sovieticus”, that is ready to get rid of its past.
But Socialism doesn’t wait for Communism to provide societal improvement. It already fixes several problems from Capitalism. It fights inequality, poverty, and provides sustainable plans for resolving crises. Hence, one of the major needs for Socialism is to resolve the present environmental crisis. In a planet where overproduction destroys absolutely everything that looks green, except dollars, the ecosystem is tired and wants to kill us. We cannot continue in that way. Thus, Socialism proposes a system where collectivity takes control of the economy in order to impose limitations on everyone, but that benefits all. It takes into account the multidimensional side of these problems, which is, for example, that you can’t call for cutting production in countries that need it to survive. A sustainable plan for a global needs to consider the needs and the means of all, above borders. This plan is called Communism.
Now that you can explain what Communism is and start arguing in its favor, you have all the tools needed to start a conversation. However, as you know, it’s not that simple. If Communism provides good solutions, it doesn’t mean that it can be summarized in a short article. There are a lot of arguments that need to be explored, plenty of critiques that need to be answered. However, in that way you can start opening the eyes of those who did not completely close them. You might encourage them to research more, read more, and finally make it to our party.
